Recently, the launch and implementation plan demonstration meeting for the National Key Research and Development Program project "Design and Manufacturing Technology of High-Temperature and Ultra-High Pressure Reactors for Large-Size Gallium Nitride Single Crystal Preparation," led by our university, was held in Shanghai. The meeting was attended by project responsibility experts Professor Lin Zhongqin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Liu Dameng from Tsinghua University, and Professor Zhu Limin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University; project guidance experts Professor Chen Zhiping from Zhejiang University, Professor Zhang Jianhua from Shanghai University, Professor Wu Chaoqun from Wuhan University of Technology, Professor Chen Qiang from the No. 59 Research Institute of China Ordnance Industry, Professor Chen Longmiao from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Professor Long Shibing from the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Zhao Jianping from Nanjing Tech University, Professor Hong Xiaobin from South China University of Technology, and Professor Ou Guofu from Changzhou University; Vice President Professor Li Chunzhong of our university; as well as over 40 project leads, core researchers, and special guests. The meeting was chaired by Professor Yang Qiang, Dean of the Scientific Research Institute at our university.
Li Chunzhong, on behalf of the university, extended a sincere welcome to the attending guests. He pointed out that East China University of Science and Technology has consistently taken the initiative to align with major national strategic needs, accelerating forward-looking deployment in the field of high-end equipment. The approval of this project represents significant support for the university's comprehensive implementation of the "Four Modernizations" strategy, the further advancement of the "Two New and Two Major" development layout, and the enhancement of its innovation capabilities in advanced manufacturing. He stated that the university would actively provide comprehensive support and guarantees for the project's execution and expressed anticipation that the successful completion of the project would provide innovative talent, professional support, and technological reserves for the development of China's new-generation semiconductor industry.
Professor Lin Zhongqin chaired the project implementation plan demonstration. Professor Xuan Fuzhen, the project's chief scientist, reported on the overall implementation plan, while the principal investigators of each sub-project reported on their respective implementation plans. The expert panel fully listened to the reports and reviewed relevant materials before discussing the implementation plans for the project and sub-projects. The panel acknowledged the preliminary work and implementation plans presented by the project team, conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the research content, objectives, technical approaches, implementation strategies, and expected outcomes of the project and its sub-projects. The experts offered constructive suggestions regarding theoretical research, experimental studies, and application demonstrations. They recommended that the project team delve deeper into identifying key technological bottlenecks and breakthrough points for each sub-project, concentrating efforts to overcome critical "bottleneck" issues to achieve a leap toward larger size and higher quality in single-crystal gallium nitride manufacturing technology.
It is noted that the project is based on the ammonia-thermal method for gallium nitride single crystal manufacturing, focusing on addressing key scientific questions and core technical challenges in the design and manufacturing of high-temperature and ultra-high pressure reactors. The project aims to overcome bottlenecks in the large-scale preparation of large-size, low-defect-density gallium nitride single crystals. Led by East China University of Science and Technology, the project involves collaborative efforts from Baowu Special Metallurgy Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd., Suzhou Nanowin Science and Technology Co., Ltd., China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The successful holding of the project launch and implementation plan demonstration meeting has clarified the project's direction and defined its core research priorities.
